Fillers Q & A

What are fillers?

Dermal fillers are cosmetic injections comprised of a gel-like substance that restores volume under your skin to enhance your natural beauty. Many of the visible signs of aging are due to the loss of subcutaneous fat under your skin. Fillers act as a replacement for the lost fat to restore your more youthful look.

Dr. Kolansky offers the Juvéderm® line of fillers, including Juvéderm Voluma® to correct volume loss and Juvéderm Vollure™ to fill in facial lines and folds.

What beauty concerns can fillers improve?

Fillers are a nonsurgical option for restoring your youthful look and enhancing your natural beauty. The cosmetic injection can be used to improve many beauty concerns, including:

  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Facial folds
  • Thin lips
  • Hollow cheeks
  • Under-eye shadows

Fillers are also used to smooth out recessed scars to improve their appearance.

What can I expect during filler injections?

Dr. Kolansky performs filler injections right in the office. Before he begins your injections, he first develops your treatment plan so he knows exactly where to place the fillers to get you the desired look. He then cleans your face with an antiseptic agent. A numbing cream may not be needed when using Juvéderm fillers, as they already contain lidocaine to minimize discomfort during the injection.

Once your skin is ready, Dr. Kolansky begins to inject your fillers into place, massaging the gel as he goes to get the most aesthetically pleasing look. The entire treatment may take 30-60 minutes, depending on the number of injections provided.

After your session, you may notice redness at the injection sites which you can treat with a cold pack. Despite these minimal side effects, you should notice an immediate improvement in your look.

Dr. Kolansky also offers Botox® injections and may suggest you combine fillers with Botox for what’s referred to as a liquid facelift.

How long do fillers last?

The length of your filler injections may depend on the type of filler used and your skin routine. However, with daily use of sunblock, your filler-enhanced look may last up to a year.
